When big successes come
like dropping New York's murder rate
It often starts with simple things
like cleaning up the paint.
Experimental solvents,
and cleaning stations new
It's started in the subways,
but to the upper streets it grew
The wave of crime the 80s knew
kept citizens in fear
of gangs and wanderers of youth
who's methods were severe
'Til Irony in bitter wit,
an antihero found
in Bernard Goetz, and after that
the crime rate ran aground
in subway car graffitti first
and ending everywhere
and in the public attitudes
instinctually aware
the new idea pioneers
that proved we need not cry
and weep as though we're shovelling
the shit against the tide
the rate dropped so incredibly,
no precedent is found
so was it magic, or good luck,
what happened so profound?
Of this there is some volumes writ
So more I'll not add here
But if I may, I'll say just this
and then I'll leave with cheer
the little things can come up big
and synergize with zeal
the solvents, and mobile rigs
they started to reveal
just how big results can be
from tiny little starts
And in this comfort shall there be
I hope it's off the charts!

Almost there...

And in a week, less by a day, the time shall come to pass
in unison humanity through camera lens shall cast
collective gaze upon that distant-most among our orbs
that dances with our yellow sun eternally towards
the outward forces thrusting past our stars with speedy haste
the inward pull of one gigantic sinkhole dug in space
The New Horizons robot flung by NASA far and wide
will finally have ended it's epic 9 year ride
And as it cruises past the dark and coldest of the rest
Bequeath it will to us the images that are the best
humanity has yet to see, may never will again
unless a 9-year price is paid, and in advance, my friend!

And oh, P.S. whoops by the way, the part that I left out
is "Pluto 2" could never happen in just 9 years, no doubt
It doesn't matter if our ships could fly record fast
the orbits are unchangeable and can limit our attacks
We have to look for windows when a journey can take place
and one such time is coming up, but prepare your face
because this is it, in our lifetime.  Of this I can be sure.
Unless you can live about 176 years more!

New Horizons mission

One of these things doesn't belong here...

So check it....
I recently sat for 2200 miles in the drivers seat of some Nissan SUV, going from Houston to Boston. Along the way, I stopped and visited some recently made friends, and graciously some lent their time on camera, to get their advice for indie artists trying to make their way in an industry that changes with the wind.

I had a great time, because the people were great.  Everyone had a friendly smile, and geniune helpfullness and kindness.  It was really cool.  Even in my short period on the ground, I've seen street level attitudes take a near 180.....in kindness, tolerance, empathy, education.   It's nutbar cool, dare I say.
Of course, it doesn't always play out so nicely.

So to the one man who did not greet me kindly.  To you, a poem sir.   ITth beginneth thus'th:

So driving up from South to North
I found my way to 'See
I little North of Franklin
amidst the Nashville trees
His wife had said they had a plan
And visiting must wait
And "thanks" I said, then put to bed
the plans I thought I'd make
But once in town I thought unfrowning
"what about those keys
he said he broke decades ago
and I could help, maybe?"
I've got a knack to fix such things
in ways I cannot say
not because I'm holding out
I just don't know, ok?
But that's it's true
I have no doubt
as plain as sunny day.
my wife has seen
the mysetery that
cures my things that break
So I did knock straight from the road
Straight to his door I went
I knew his time was spoken for
and every hour spent
I would not have dared to stay
beyond the time we had
to greet his keyboard, say hello
then my goal would be had.
But here is where I must admit
my motivation not
just to give a lad a hand
on 80s tech now hot.
It wasn't just to give a try
to fix some gear he owns.
I hoped I'd get a handshake, smile,
and maybe a "hello".
...

I left real quick, and O for 3, on that count above.
That he liked not dropper's-in
his face made clear enough.
He was in that group of folks
unhumored by surprize
Those specs now made him hostile seem
He glared with angry eyes.
So that was that, and this is this
recounting my retreat
And though I glee, so hasility I bolted from his street!
Man oh man, you should've seen the needle on the dial!
My face, hands and speedometer were red at the same time!
I'm only being funny, I exagerate a bit
irrited, vexed, perplexed, but not irate, was it.
The feelings that I left with more disappointment than revenge
contemplations whether one should real-world press "unfriend".
When these questions do encrouch upon my blistered head
I think of what would I have done in his place.....instead?
That makes it so much easier to figure out for me.
I'm sorry dude, your act is lewd.  I'm outta here.
See yee!      : )

Forgotten things that now return.....egad is what I'll say

It ain't that bad
the fun that's had
watching dotted yellow lines
the memories that are triggered
seeing pink and orange skies
the comfort that is found
passing old familiar signs
and such is true wherever you are
it all kind of looks the same
at least north of the equator,
and west of monsoon rain
Or west of the Altantic
And East of Honalu
The buildings tend to be the same
Especially seeking food
golden arches up and down
every interstate
and halfway to the sky it seems
those signs that subtle aint
miles away I salivate
just like they knew I would
the bastards turned my chocolate snacks
to salt-trap tasty goods
I successfully avoided you
for over 30 years
how did you find such return
Reversing habits feared?
It turns out I am not immune
for I too have to eat
and though it be infrequently
it's not a thing descreet
it happens rather messily
and when I'm changing gears
But that the way the road behaves
and has done through the years
I think for now this blog be done
So chow, I'm outta here!
